January marked the launch of our new magazine for SilkAir in Singapore – a beautiful airline that is known for being Asia’s best regional airline.
SilkAir is a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA) and it has been serving the region for almost 30 years and flies close to 4 million passengers a year. With a network covering more than 50 destinations in 14 countries, including all 10 ASEAN nations, the airline continues to expand, with Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Laos and Fuzhou in China being the latest additions.
This new partnership sees a stunning new design and editorial vision for the monthly in fight magazine, Silkwinds, as well as exciting new commercial opportunities onboard their aircraft and online at SilkAir.
Silkwinds became available onboard all SilkAir planes from January 1, featuring glorious photography and insightful editorial features to appeal directly to the airline’s passengers.
Mr. Foo Chai Woo, Chief Executive of SilkAir, said: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Ink, as their reputation in travel media is unrivalled. The first reimagined edition looks fantastic and we’re excited to get it onboard our aircraft in a few weeks time. Our passengers can look forward to original and inspiring storytelling from across our network, in a beautifully designed new magazine.”
We are really looking forward to our new partnership with SilkAir and to inspiring its loyal customers with Silkwinds. With a beautiful new design, deep story telling and fantastic photography, the magazine will be a joy to read when passengers embark on their travels.
SilkAir operates the Singapore Airlines Group’s narrowbody feet and extends the Group network by seeding and developing new, exciting destinations in Asia Pacific.
The airline took to the skies in February 1989 as Tradewinds the Airline, before evolving into SilkAir in 1992. In its early days, the airline catered to passengers holidaying in exotic destinations in the region, including Phuket and Tioman. As the carrier developed, regional business destinations such as Phnom Penh, Yangon and Kuala Lumpur were added.
Today, the full-service airline operates almost 400 weekly flights to 52 destinations in 14 countries. Recent additions to the network include Vientiane, Luang Prabang (Oct 2016) and Fuzhou (Nov 2016). SilkAir will commence flights to Colombo on 8 April 2017, extending the airline’s network to 53 destinations in 15 countries. The airline currently has a fleet of 31 aircraft, comprising 3 A319s and 11 A320s and 17 Boeing 737-800s. In August 2012, the airline announced the largest order in its history of up to 68 Boeing 737 aircraft, with firm orders comprising Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
